  1. questionCan solutions be preheated when perfusing sample using the SF-77 perfusion fast-step device?
The SF-77 does not well support pre-heating of solutions before delivery. The slow flow rates typically used allows significant heat loss while traversing the glass tubes prior to reaching sample. Also, the large surface to volume ratio of the perfusion lines and the glass tubes will dissipate t ...

  2. questionCan the leads in the headstage DIN connector be repaired?
Yes. While we can make a repair at the factory, it is a simple enough task that the user can make a repair on-site.The connector used for most Warner devices (amplifiers, temperature controllers, etc.) are known as DIN type connectors. They can be opened by removing the set-screw on the side and ...

  3. questionCan the SF-77 fast step perfusion system move in increments other than 100um?
Unfortunately, no.The SF-77 fast step perfusion system employs a stepper motor that is restricted to 100 um increments. Larger steps (still in 100 um increments) can be programmed via the SF-77 controller.

  4. questionThe valves in the pinch valve system sticks and does not move reliably when the switch is thrown. How can this be fixed?
First, make sure the valves have silicone tubing in BOTH sides of the valve. This is required for the valve to work properly. If this does not solve the problem, then try lubricating the valve. Place a small drop of mineral or 3-in-1 oil to the front of the valve when it is compressed. Then cycl ...

  5. questionWhat is the difference between the various glass tubes that come with the different SF-77 perfusion step systems?
The SF-77B system includes 5cm long 3SG700-5 three barrel glass tubing shown below. 3SG700-10 glass tubing is identical but is 10cm long and can be purchased separately. The SF-77BLT system includes SG1000-5 single barrel glass tubing shown below. The SF-77BST system includes TGC-200-10 glass the ...

  6. questionWhat is the purpose of the motor voltage adjustement located on the rear panel of the SF-77?
When using 100 µm steps, it is important to minimize any vibration produced by the stepper motor. This is accomplished by reducing the motor voltage until the vibration artifact is minimized. This adjustment is achieved using the voltage adjustment control on the rear of the SF-77. Any re ...

  7. questionWhat step size should the SF-77 be set to when using theta tubing?
Theta tubing is generally pulled on a standard puller to a tip diameter of approximately 300µm. This yeilds a barrel to barrel spacing of approximately 100 µm. Therefore a 100 um step will be apropriate for this size theta tubing.

  8. questionWhy is an MM series manifold used with the SF-77B and SF-77BST perfusion fast step systems but an ML series manifold is used with the SF-77BLT perfusion fast step system?
The glass tube used with the SF-77BLT system is larger and able to accommodate larger tubing and therefore larger volumes and faster flow rates than the glass tubes used with the SF-77B and SF-77BST systems. The ML series manifold is used in the SF-77BLT system because the output port can accomm ...

  9. questionCan the voltage on the SF-77B be converted from 115V to 230V?
Please see attached pdf for step by step instructions.
