What purpose do the dish clamps serve when using cell culture dishes in a microincubator?

Dish clamps are provided to hold cell culture dishes in place in the bottom of the microincubator.

Clamping insures good thermal contact between the culture dish and the heated surface which helps to maintain tight temperature control.
